Congratulations! You've taken our suggestion, you set a timer for 30 minutes and you took on a corner of the "room where everything goes to disappear!" In the process you discovered those pair of shorts you've been missing and actually uttered out loud "THAT'S where they went!" You're feeling proud of yourself and plan to do it again next Saturday. But now what? How do you reward yourself?
Now for some, those shorts may have just been the reward, especially if you have been looking for them for a while! Sometimes, if you're like me, food seems like such a great reward. But getting honest with myself, I really need to stop that reward unless it's carrots or celery...for now anyway. What about a walk around your block or neighborhood? Take a moment to sit on your porch swing. Maybe put on your favorite song and dance in your living room. (Bonus invite your partner and/or kids, they may want to dance with you and now it's a party!) Take a 15-minute break and read a chapter in your favorite book.
Whatever your choice, be sure to reward yourself when you've taken on something that overwhelms you and made some progress. As the motto goes--Progress Not Perfection. And every once in a while, give yourself the ok to reward yourself with a treat like cookies. :)
